Monthly Kingdom Arts and Science Competition

Greetings To all who read this Missive from Elisabeth Johana von der Flossenburg

In my letter in the Aestel I mentioned something I would like to start.   Well it is time now to invite Everyone in this Kingdom to participate in a monthly Essay Contest.

First let me tell you what I invision and why I would like to do this and hope that many of you will support my idea.

With traveling getting more and more exspensive, and funds tighter, yet the need for educating and learning ever more increasing I thought that an Essay contest with a monthly theme would afford EVERYOne in our fair Kingdom the opportunity to participate, since it can all be done via email!

The Theme for the month of March is:
CONTESTS, COMPETITIONS, GAMES AND ENTERTAINMENT IN PERIOD

All participants should submit an essay that fits into the broad spectrum of this theme.  It can be a story or poem, with explanation of the historic conrtext, it can be the rules of a game, with explanation when this game was first played in our time period.  It can be an essay about clothing an entertainer in period would have worn, it can be the description of a tournament, for are they not competitions?   etc. etc.  I think you get the idea.

The essay should be at least 3 pages long, double spaced, with a bibliopgraphie.

I will give the essays to subject matter experts for judging.  At that time the name of the author will NOT be revealed.

After judging I will reveal the authors' names and contact information to the judges and will ask the judges to contact the respective authors and discuss the essays with the contestants.  If editing is required I will ask the contestants/authors to edit their papers and resubmit the edited paper to me for publication, including of course the author's permission.

All papers will be published in electronic format and distributed to each A&S Officer in this Kingdom to start a Research Library for every group.  I am hoping for many submissions over the coming month so it wil be an extensive research library for all our groups!

The hopefully active interaction between contestant/author and judges will hopefully be a learning experience for both.  And it will give the contestants a much better idea what judges are looking for as well as lgiving the judges and opportunity to get to know artisans from all over our fair Kingdom!  Something that may not happen as easily at events, since we are all busy at events!

On a quarterly basis, at Crown Tournaments and Coronations the top scoring authors of the preceeding 3 monthy will be recognized as the Artisan of the Month (in which they submitted the winning entry) and receive a scroll as well as a token from me that can be worn to display their status!

I hope I covered everything about this contest.  If I did not, and you have questions, please send me an email.

All papers must be sub, mitted to me by March 31.  Judging for March

Essays will begin April 3 and depending on the number of entries should be concluded by the end of April.

The only thing left to me now is to ask YOU to participate.  I know March is busy with Ice Dragon, but please consider entering regardless!

I remain in Service to Glorious Aethelmearc
Elisabeth
