What an eventful month!! Pennsic was incredibly stormy, humid, and tiring, and yet many Thescorrean still accomplished many good deeds on behalf of others. We witnessed volunteers at Troll and Chirurgeons Point, gentles working on staff, and marshals overseeing lists and ranges, and many other acts of kindness, time, and effort.
We thank Mick, Eldjarn, Peregrine, Juliana, Carlo, Orianna, and Fridrikr for guarding the Æthelmearc Gate on Thescorre’s appointed day for that duty. We especially thank Dubheasa for taking not one, not two, but three guard shifts on that day!
Orianna also sat several shifts at the Hospital Table inside the Æthelmearc encampment gate, as did Olivia, Kelde, and GK. In addition, Olivia retained for Their Majesties and Their Highnesses, as did Teresa and Eldjarn.
We saw Devon, Una, and Ulric spending most of their War – as always – working on staff so that others could enjoy their vacations.
Further, we saw Khalek, Vettius, and Yasmina marshalling melees so others could enjoy the battles. Matilda heralded numerous hot, wet, and long courts for Their Majesties throughout the War.
And, of course, several scribes contributed scrolls to the kingdom and baronial courts, including Collette, Una, and Yasmina (especially to Collette, for creating His Highness’ knighting scroll).
In the classrooms, we observed several gentles who have taught at Pennsic year after year (Sadira doing her weedwalk, Solveig holding multiple Japanese culture classes, Otelia instructing how to make wax tablets, GK teaching lacis, and Fridrikr teaching kennings and heraldic basics) as well as some teachers who were new to teaching at War (Eldjarn teaching dance, Mick teaching Brehon law, Portia teaching Renaissance drawing, and former Thescorrean Asyia leading bellydance combinations).
It was a joy to see several Thescorreans be rightfully recognized for their good works:
• Daedra joined the Order of the Broche for her many years of teaching bardic and scribal skills, • Phillipe received his Master Chirurgeon baldric, • Khalek was welcomed into the Order of the Millrind, • Yasmina was inducted into the Order of the White Scarf, and • Una was elevated to the Order of the Laurel!
One of our very talented bardic champions, Ye Jian, ably represented Thescorre in the Seven Pearls Bardic tournament, singing for the first time a song he had written for the occasion. We were quite honored to hear its maiden performance.
A special delight was learning that Talia won the Known World Rose Youth Archery competition, representing Countess Caryl. The applause in Baronial Court following this announcement was thunderous!
Further, we recognize and thank those who fought with Eric in the open field battle: Vettius, Khalek, Ash, Ye Jian, and Michael.
We sincerely and deeply thank those gentles who retained for or helped us carry things during the various processions, courts, and activities we attended as part of our baronial duties: • Artimus, Eldjarn, Roberta, Sadira, Carlo, Ye Jian, Khalek, Branwen, and Talia at Opening Ceremonies; • Pleasance, Yasmina, Mick, Matilda, Eldjarn, Roberta, and especially Thomas at Thescorre Court; • Pleasance, Dubheasa, Eldjarn, Roberta, Yasmina, Matteo, Cedric, Peregrine, William, Carlo, and Juliana for Æthelmearc Court; and
Peregrine and Cedric assisting with Closing Ceremonies.
Vivant to all! We are very proud of and grateful to you all. If we missed anyone, please know that it is not an intentional oversight.
Now, everyone is home and (hopefully) unpacked from War and readying for Crown. But Thescorre never stops working, so we are pleased to witness more accolades: Vivat to Eldjarn on his well-deserved Sycamore at Summer’s End!
Finally, two special recent occasions deserve celebration: Congratulations to Mick on his retirement after 25 years at Thomson/West – may you enjoy your free time! Congratulations, too, to Collette and Caradawc on the birth of their baby boy, William Caiden. May you also enjoy some free time at some point!
