From the Baron & Baroness

Gulf Wars
This event (see http://www.gulfwars.org/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gi) does not conflict with Ice Dragon this year, and we are considering going. We’re wondering whether any other Thescorreans are likewise considering this trip?
Why? Well, we – as in the Barony – have an invitation. From the soon-to-be king of Ansteorra.
…Maybe we’d better explain the back story…

One night at Pennsic, we’re enjoying a late-night snack at Beast & Boar with Octavia and Sean. As we’re chatting, Eric points to a gentle striding out of the tent. “Isn’t that Gunther?” he asks me.
I run out into the night, call his name, and yes, it’s my friend from the SCA-Cooks list. We hug and chat about how wonderful it is that he was able to make it to War this year (he often hasn’t in the past). He stops my babbling with a huge cat-eating-the-cream grin and asks, “You were here all last week? Oh, so you didn’t read the news on the list!”
“You proposed to Elizabeth?” I ask excitedly
“No….” he says, quirks his eyebrow, and points at the coronet on his head.
In the dark, I squint… and realize that lid on his head is *not* his normal county coronet. It has… points.
Wait a minute.
“You won Crown, didn’t you?” I accuse him. “Your Highness” I amend after a moment.

He grins. Yep, he won Ansteorra Crown. The week beforehand. He’s bouncing up and down, like a kid in a candy store. Hence his being at Pennsic this week. (Did I mention he’s wonderfully goofy?)
Eric and our friends come out of the tent, he greets all of them, then invites us to have a bite of Ansteorran chili back at his camp. We do so, then invite him back to our camp to see friends who moved from Ansteorra to Æthelmearc.

An hour later, we’re relaxing in camp, swapping stories when Gunther says how much he’s looking forward to Gulf Wars this year, and wonderfully well the site has been cleaned up since Hurricane Katrina.
“You *have* to come!” he entreats us.
He looks at Eric.
“You’re fighting heavy now, you can fight with me! You’ll be my guests!”
Eric and I look at each other.
“Are you offering an alliance, Your Highness?” we ask.
“Sure!”
“Um, with the Barony of Thescorre?”
“Sure!”
“…You know we’ll need to talk to Their Highnesses of Æthelmearc, to whom we will be in fealty at that time?”
“Sure!”

The next day, before the Field Battle, we did indeed tell Christopher & Morgen that our barony had been offered an alliance with the Kingdom of Ansteorra, and what was Their wish? Yes, They chuckled. Not surprisingly, They said we’d discuss it later.
We are now seeking Their now-Majesties’ thoughts on this offer and whether They have decided which side to join in this annual war. We ask you:
Are there others in Thescorre who wish to join us?
<smile>
