As several gentles know, I work for a legal publishing company. Over the next year, it is transferring much of its editorial processing to India and the Phillipines.
I’m one of the senior editors recruited to train and provide ongoing guidance to new editorial employees from the office we just opened in Hyderabad (a large city in South Central India). The company flew these new employees here to Rochester for two months of hands-on training.
Upon meeting my new coworkers when they arrived, I was surprised but delighted to learn that they had Googled me! Of course, this lead them to my webpage... which introduced them to the SCA.
Thus, our first conversation centered around the fact that not only did they want to see the standard attractions in New York State (Niagara Falls, local museums, New York City, etc.) during their time here but also some of our local barony practices
Although they found all our hobbies interesting, they were particularly intrigued by our various martial activities.
On a recent Monday night, Padraig and Eric very kindly introduced Amarnath Krishnaswamy and Naumene Suraparaj Karlapalem to the basics of rapier combat one evening, then all enjoyed some dancing and drumming across the hallway.

The following weekend, Cedric and Eldjarn patiently guided Amar, Naumene, and Atia Preeti Mathai Luke through their first archery lessons.

Afterward, I drove them up to see the shores of Lake Ontario and all the birds of prey there, while we talked about our shared love of various time periods in history... and food. We always end up talking about food, naturally! :)
